Correctional and Treatment Facilities Committee

The primary purpose of the Correctional Facilities and Treatment Facilities Committee (CF/TF) of the Ottawa Area is to carry the AA message to Alcoholics both behind the walls of Correctional Facilities and in Treatment Facilities. This also includes two programs called Pre- Release (from CF) and Temporary Contact – Bridging the Gap (from TF) Programs. A new program called Count-On-Us Project has been launched.

The Greater Ottawa Area is comprised of

  • District 48 – Seaway, Valley,
  • District54 – Ottawa Rideau,
  • District58 – Ottawa Bytown,
  • District62 – Ottawa West, and
  • District66 – Golden Triangle.
The committee meets once a month, the 2nd Thursday at 7:30 PM. AA visitors are welcome.

The CF Committee supports the following by putting on meetings:

  • Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre (OCDC): CF Committee puts on meetings twice a week (Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings). We go into Young Offenders Unit, male - maximum, male - minimum, and the women’s dorm.

  • Brockville Jail also falls under the CF Committee. Meetings are held once a week on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.

The TF Committee supports the following by putting on meetings:

  • Allwood (Scotch Corners Road, Carleton Place), Wednesday at 8:00 PM

  • Elizabeth Fry Society (Ottawa) (Women only) Tuesday at 211 Bronson, at 7:30 PM.

  • Newgate 180 (Merrickville) Thursday at 8:00 PM

  • Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre (Detox). Daily at 7:00 PM

  • Royal Ottawa Hospital (ROH) Monday evenings, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 PM, and alternating Fridays at 7:00 PM

The Committee also supports both The Union Mission and the Salvation Army.

AA Literature is provided by the Committee as required to the facilities we support.

Volunteers are always needed. In most cases one needs a minimum of 2 years of sobriety. The exception is that the second person going into Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre requires a minimum of 6 months of sobriety. In the case of Correctional Facilities, each facility requires that its own particular clearance process be undertaken by each volunteer.

Additional information may be obtained through your District CF/TF representative or by contacting the Intergroup Office (237-6003).

Count On Us Project

Dear Friends: One of the basics of our recovery program is the knowledge that to keep sobriety we must give it away. Now I’m asking your group to share with those not so fortunate. Will you sponsor an AA Grapevine subscription to the Ottawa Carleton Correctional Centre (OCDC)? Fellow AAs in jail can’t get to the meetings of their choice whenever they feel the need. For them, AA literature keeps them on the path of sobriety between meetings, and the AA Grapevine – with their emphasis on direct, first-person accounts of sobriety as it is lived today – are always well-received and looked forward to. If your group will send the price of a one- or two-year subscription, the Count-On-Us Project will see to it that OCDC directly receives a gift subscription in your group’s name. With over 400 males, approximately 40 females, and 25 Young Offenders any given week, OCDC needs many copies. Please contribute if you can, to help bring the Fellowship to men and women in prison.

Count-On-Us Project in the Ottawa Region is sponsored by:
Greater Ottawa Alcoholics Anonymous - Correctional Facilities / Treatment Facilities (CFTF) committee.

One-year subscription $28.00 CDN
Two-year subscription $56.00 CDN
